We're in an really trying time right now. You can especially feel this if you're a creative, a healer, an artist or all three. Almost five years ago, I read an article by someone who became my business coach for minute. He talked about how we're constantly feeling like we're not enough so we pile on the certifications, we enroll in more classes, workshops, retreats, online courses. Or we get another coach, teacher, read more books, watch more inspirational videos. We tell ourselves, "I'll start seeing my own clients when I get this last class in" or "I'll put myself out there as soon as my website is up and full of testimonials". We delay sharing our gifts with the world waiting for that perfect opportunity, degree, credential. And instead we stay in a job we hate or a profession that doesn't fulfill us because we're scared to make a move, even a slight one.
Here's the thing. You are enough, just as you are. Our value as creative humans comes from who you are, not the alphabet soup behind your name. Filling our brains with information, facts, medical terminology, algorithms doesn't make us better human beings. And it is not what makes us useful to the planet. What is of value, what helps and leads us to connect, is how we are, how we show up in the world and how we give our love.
We must first become comfortable in our current skin, our current situation, our current bodies, minds, spirit. I'm a trained PA, yoga and meditation teacher, certified nutritionist and published author. And I can say that in a 12-hour clinic day, I use about 15% of that part of my brain is used to help my patients. The other 85% comes from my presence, my open heart and open ears and my ability to connect with patients on a level that they've rarely experienced. (Though I was incredibly blessed to know and use that expertise to help saving a life last week). Why do I have so many credentials? Because I've never felt like I was enough, until recently and after many trials, tribulations and dark nights of the soul.
If you know a little bit about nutrition write about it, teach others. Believe it or not, the majority of people don't even know the basics, many of those who see us in clinic drink soda and eat fast food 90% of their lives. Just you talking to them about water and veggies could spark a change. If you're obsessed with the healing power of essential oils, share, do workshops, classes, write about your inventions, share your knowledge. Maybe you've taught yourself Final Cut Pro or CAD and you have a skill or a talent that you can create with those skills. Share it!! Do it!!
I've been healed by my boyfriend, who builds homes for a living, plays golf and has a BA in History. My puppy dog holds space for me whenever I have a crisis and I always feel better after a session with Ellie Belle. My niece was 17 when my sister sent her to me to save me from the brink of suicide (she is a born healer with zero credentials except life). My sister has been helping me heal my entire life and she has her PhD. in education. My friends, family, community has lifted me up during some of the most heart-wrenching, soul-breaking times and did it by simply being there and being love. Patients have taught me about healing by sharing their stories of autoimmune disease and cancer. Parents who just want the best life for their child, teach me about healing all the time and many of them without training, education or degrees in the healthcare field.
"Perfection is the enemy of progress" If we're not growing, evolving, creating, learning, progressing, then we become static creatures. Being stationary leads to boredom. Boredom leads to drama, either self-created or manifested. Then we become addicted to living on drama, through our relationships, in the workplace, the media, the news. We indulge in vices and live our lives wanting to get that high from somewhere. Or look for ways to numb that constant chattering inside our heads. This leads us to fall into the 'we're not enough' cycle. We begin to compare ourselves to those in our real or the socials world. We end up in our heads every second of every minute of every day and as Tony Robbins says, "if you're in your head, you're dead".
Get out of there! Step away from that inner-bully. Would you ever tell a child that they're not enough?
You are enough. You are perfect just the way you are. Give your tribe a chance to find you. If people say you're funny and you should do stand-up, do it, if you're curious about it. If people say you're the best organizer, design a facebook page and offer your services. If people see your photography and want you to capture them, do it and charge for your services! If you feel called to heal others, start a blog and start writing about your experiences and watch how people who feel you flock. If you build it, they will come.
Get comfortable in your own skin. Follow your curiosity. Set an intention to get out there and share your gifts with the world, whatever stage they may be in. Just take action, today, not later. All we have is this moment.
And now it's gone.
You are enough. When you believe it, let me know and we can play together.
I love you and I believe in you.
